That is quite a lot of overheads. i think if 3 people are combining then $1500 is probably my limit when divided by 3, so $500. I don't need to have the unit, but I would like the ROMs (cartridge and main unit) dumped. That is my reason to put funds together with others. Also, I suspect customs will want to be paid if the unit or parts are shipped from place to pace at least from UK to EU, so that will have to be taken account of. Unless we can persuade them that it is a gift and have $0 value. Within the EU there is no problem. I'd be happy to take the ROMs out and dump them, but then the unit is outside the EU, which isn't the best place for it to be if it is to be moved around the other people. Is anyone else happy to dump the ROMs?

All safe and sound, it appears. I can't power it up yet as I need to switch the PSU to 240V. I have taken the 4K cartridge apart and taken the battery out, though...

I've looked at the service manual and it appears that cutting J1 on the PSU PCB is how to change from a 100V input to a 200V input. Has anyone done this modification? Alternatively, has anyone got a picture of the power PCB on a system that is running at 200V or 240V?
Just want to have some confirmation that this is how to swap voltage.

I don't have done this modification because my FX-9000P was already set to 220v.

Anyway, I uploaded a picture of the power PCB. You can find it in the first page of this post. If do you need the original pictures with more resolution here there are:

Congratulation, we already have a new FX-9000P's owner :D

Do not worry about the 4K cartridge battery. Before to receive mine, I bought a battery spare but when I opened the cartridge the battery was found in perfect conditions and voltage levels. It seems that this kind of batteries can work lots of years without problems.

Thank you for the high resolution photos. The first on in the thread wasn't high enough resolution to zoom in. I have used the high resolution one to see that your link J1 is indeed cut, so that does look like the correct modification. Excellent, I'll do that and hopefully it'll work fine.

Yes, I'm looking forward to powering it up and using it.
the battery hadn't leaked, but it was at 2V so not full voltage. It could probably preserved the RAM contents, though.
Oh dear, maybe there was a program in there. I've lost it now. Oh well. Did anyone ever find a program in a RAM cartridge?

So, cutting the J1 wire would be enough to change from 100V to 220V ? That would be amazing.
Did anyone ever find a program in a RAM cartridge?
I did :)

Coming from a FX-9000P from NZ, in one of the C-16K cartridges enclosed.
Only tiny demo programs though, nothing very serious.
Might be useful to transfer them onto WAV files to do some cross-checks, though !
I'll try to squeeze that into my tight agenda (I must take it out of storage and set it up)

But I concur : these batteries life is amazing.
Same thing for their AA batteries, often still going strong 20-30 years later... what gives ?
I was wondering who was the manufacturer of those early 80s batteries !

Yes it does. So if J1 is removed then the PSU accepts 240V (actually 193-296V) and if the link is in place it accepts 100V (actually 88-136V ). I have cut J1 and powered my machine from 240V and it seems fine, as expected. The label on the back is wrong now, though, so if you get a machine it's probably best to check J1 before applying power.

Was this on paper? The 16K cartridge doesn't have batteries does it?

I have powered the machine up and it has the expected fault that was in the photos.

P1070136p1.JPG
P1070136p1.JPG (67.71 Kio) Vu 2244 fois

If my reading of the circuit is correct then it is bits 7 and 6 that are stuck at 1. These are (I think) RAM 1 and RAM 2 on the PCB. Interestingly RAM 1 is now in a socket, so someone has been fiddling with the machine in that area.

P1070134p1.JPG
P1070134p1.JPG (72.21 Kio) Vu 2244 fois
So it looks like two RAM chips are stuck at 1, even after one of them was put into a socket. It could be that the video shift register is faulty, so I may look at that as well. I think if it is the RAM chips then I will build a RAM replacement PCB that replaces the RAM chips as they are old now, and also seem to be very expensive to buy.

I'll put the rest of the story in a 'Fix' thread.

Well, there are two types of 16 K cartridges :
  • D-16K (for Dynamic) that are NOT battery backed up - these have a light blue tab
  • C-16K (for CMOS) that are battery backed up - these have a red tab

Some things don't come by very often - if at all.
I found another FX-9000P book - somewhat dull however :
It is aimed at people wanting to do accounting with the FX-9000P.
It has tons of advice, albeit in Japanese.
It is in my to-scan stack...

Re: Casio FX-9000P

Image

A suivre donc ;)
